I wrote this poem for a very special friend that I met through my job and knew for over 14 years. He was an inspiration to all who knew him and I can only hope to be half as active and wise when I get older. Howard passed away on March 17, 2005 at the age of 90. His memory will live in my heart forever.

Just Like You

If I could choose a grandfather
I would want him to be like you
A true gentleman to the core
Soft spoken, kind and true

Stories to tell of interesting times
A glimpse into your colorful past
Of events that shaped your life
Important memories that will last

A hard worker over the years
Believing in a job well done
Respected by your community
Loved by your wife and children

Always active and so full of life
Making the most of every day
Sharing your positive values
Good role model in every way

I feel lucky to have met you
And what you have given me
An optimistic outlook on life
And how rewarding it can be
